So here we are another new years eve and the end of another year. Did you accomplish the goals you set out to do last new years? Did you even set any goals for the new year? Well one of the most popular goals that people seem to set year after year is to live a healthier lifestyle either through their diet or some type of exercise program. So which will you attempt this year?
It always struck me as funny how people need to set a specific start date when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle. You know the saying I will start working out on Monday or I will start my diet on the first of the month or starting the new year! I say when it comes to living a healthier lifestyle and you are really committed to making a change then there is no better time than the present as in that day at that moment. Anyway let’s move on to changing our habits so we can move forward into living a healthier lifestyle for 2009.
So what are some of the best ways to change our habits? Here are a few things that have worked for me and by all means if you have some of your own please share them with a few comments at the end. One of the best things that was ever recommended to me was to start small with changes that you might even consider silly or even too easy. The idea is to start building habits no matter how small and these habits will become the foundation for the bigger things you want to change and make them all that much easier to accomplish.
When it comes to exercise I notice that people tend to jump into the deep end of the exercise pool right away and end up bailing out in about a month. Well guess what the same advice applies start small like going for walks and work your way up to that gym membership. First things first though just start moving and develop that habit first.
See where I am going with this? Changing your diet part of your plan? Start small again and work your way up to eating more healthy meals versus junk food meals. One thing about eating healthy though is learn to keep some of your favorite not so healthy indulgences in your diet. For me it’s ice cream! For the most part I like to think I eat pretty healthy now a days but I still have some ice cream a couple times a week. Helps to keep me from falling off the healthy eating wagon
