Living A Greener Lifestyle

Are you on board with living a greener lifestyle? Do you actively look for ways to create a smaller carbon footprint with the type of lifestyle choices you are making? Do you even know what your carbon footprint is or what goes into figuring out the size of your carbon footprint? Living a greener lifestyle is becoming a social requirement that is touching almost every aspect of everyones life.

So what is a carbon footprint first of all? Well if you go on over to the wiki a carbon footprint is described as the amount of green house gases or GHG that are caused either directly or indirectly by people, events, products or companies. I think that pretty much covers all of us wouldn’t you say? GHG or the carbon emissions are all caused by what, well it’s all caused by everyone using gas and oil to fuel everything we do of course. All this is not any big secret of course as most scientist as well as all us regular folks have known this for years. It’s only in the last year when the price of gas skyrocketed out of sight that people came together collectively and finally said hey there has got to be a better way. People start to notice things when it hits them in their wallets, don’t they?

Yep once the problem started to eat at peoples savings all of sudden saving the environment became more important to a lot more people. Don’t get me wrong I am totally grateful that going green is not just a saying anymore and it’s a lifestyle choice that more and more people are actively choosing to pursue. I just think it was a shame that it had to go as far as it did before we all woke up and took notice.

So what are some of the more common choices people are making in their pursuit of a greener lifestyle? Have you swapped out all your old light bulbs yet and gone to the more energy efficient twisty bulbs? I call them twisty bulbs, they remind me of the old twisty straws that we used to get for our chocolate milk! How about looking into moving into a smaller house? Believe it or not the idea of living in a smaller home is starting to catch on for a lot of folks and they have a way smaller carbon footprint than some of those small McMansions that you see around every suburban neighborhood now a days. Then of course you have the electric and hybrid cars that everyone is trying to make and sell right now. I am waiting for that electric Jeep Wrangler myself ;-)

I know that there are hundreds if not thousands of other ways to live a greener lifestyle and I know that my family is doing our part. I hope your is as well, what are some of the easier things that you have learned about living a greener lifestyle in the last year or so that would be a good tip for the rest of us?
